Residential Program

Our Christ-centered residential recovery program offers healing and restoration for men who are tired and are ready for change. We require a commitment to complete all 4 phases where we provide a structured faith-based lifestyle for men. During the residents time at Calvary House, the men will learn key life-skills through on-campus job training in landscaping, athletic field maintenance, restaurant services, custodial work, and regular maintenance.

Phase 4: Servant Leadership

At this point in the ministry, we believe the men are ready to begin to lead others. They will be recognized amongst their peers as servant leaders and will be tasked with certain responsibilities as well as certain privileges. The men in this phase also qualify to serve in various areas of our church. Part of their responsibilities includes leading their assigned apartment in areas such as devotional time, house disputes, shopping, getting to and from work and church. They will be responsible for the health of their home. They will also qualify for a phone and weekly passes.

Phase 1: Introduction

Men get adjusted to Calvary House, begin journaling, devotions, and operating in our daily schedule. For men to move into the next phase they must learn to live in community with minimal confrontation, journal, take notes at church, read assigned books and turn in reports, work obediently at church, and actively and willingly participate in any other aspect of the Calvary House.

Phase 2: Regeneration

During this phase, men will complete 10-weeks of counseling through an outsourced Christian counseling center. This phase is designed to help the men begin working through deeper issues in a safe and confidential environment. In order for men to successfully complete this phase, they must complete all assigned counselling sessions, as well as adhere to previous expectations from intro phase.

Phase 3: Inner Healing

During this phase, the men will go through inner healing curriculum on Wednesday nights. At this point in the ministry, we believe the men are ready to address and seek healing from deep issues that may have been identified in previous counselling. The men in this phase have also chosen to commit an additional 6 months to complete Calvary House in its entirety. In order for men to move into the final phase of the ministry, they must successfully complete the inner healing curriculum, as well as adhere to previous commitments from prior phases.

Transitional Program

While still living on our property, and after their commitment to the program has been fulfilled, the men will have an opportunity to go through a transitional phase for a period of three to six months. During this time, they will seek employment, as well as build a budget and savings.

Daily Schedule

The daily schedule at Calvary House varies depending on the day of the week. During the week, Monday thru Friday, the men travel to Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale where they will spend most of the day where they are assigned different tasks on Calvary Chapels 78 acre property. The men who are in Phase 2 will meet with their licensed mental health counselor weekly at Calvary Chapel. After work, the men return to the residences where they will eat dinner and attend evening classes.

Testimonials

Steven J.

My name is Steven and I was born and raised in Bradenton, Florida. I come from a 23 year addiction to pain meds. From the age of 12 I was dead set on chasing all of the things that the world had to offer. This led me down a road that I don’t ever want to go down again. Feeling empty and lost, I started to use pain medication to escape reality. Before long, I was completely enslaved to these drugs. In 2009 I caught a felony possession charge. Looking back I realize that this was God’s way of opening my eyes to the fact that I needed help. The court sentenced me to a rehab program and that’s where my journey of sobriety began. After 6 months, I completed the program. I started going to church and this is when I started to realize that there was still something missing. After a few months, I asked Jesus into my heart and I began to really pursue Him. However, in 2018 everything crashed again. I broke my ankle which required surgery and I was prescribed pain medicine. I bought into the lie that I could now take them responsibly on my own. About 4 months after my surgery I found myself addicted again. Things began to spiral out of control. I started hanging out with the wrong kinda people, doing drugs I have never touched before and ended up overdosing twice while behind the wheel of my car. Broken and defeated, I started praying that God would intervene and rescue me from this pit I was in. It was 3 days later that some people told me about a place called Calvary House in South Florida and that they would be able to help me. I decided to go and that night I was heading to Fort Lauderdale to spend a year at Calvary House. The journey has not been easy, in-fact it’s hard. I have to rely on the Him daily. He used this place to really show me who He was and that His love for me is unconditional. In April, I will be celebrating 2 years of sobriety. I am excited about my future and all that He has in store for my life. I believe making the choice to leave everything behind and follow Jesus (once again )was one the greatest choices I have ever made. Thank you Jesus and thank you Calvary House.

Matthew G.

My name is Matthew and I’m from Boca Raton, Florida. I come from a loving Christian home where my mom & dad were both very present. I have a younger sister whom I am very close with. Honestly, I had an incredible upbringing and couldn’t have asked for anything more. Things were good!! I grew up as an athlete and was able to abstain from drugs and alcohol in my younger years and all through high school. Things started to change when I went to college. I began experimenting with all of the stuff that was around me. I started having sex and smoking weed regularly. Well, this opened a surprise door that I couldn’t get out of. After a few years, the fun quickly turned into destruction of crashing cars, getting a DUI, getting arrested, lying, stealing, manipulating, cash advances on my credit cards, ruthless gambling and destroying every relationship I was in. It was the beginning of a 10 year long addiction to high stakes gambling, alcohol, cocaine, ecstasy, weed, sex and the list goes on. I wound up losing it ALL. I remember driving around in my car that had a cinder block thrown through the window. I had no job, no money, and absolutely no hope. I was completely broken with no more fight in me. I cried out that night and Jesus came to my rescue. He gave me just enough strength to make a phone call to a place called Calvary House. This is when the door of despair was shut and the door of authentic love and healing was opened. Jesus used Calvary House to radically change my life. This place has taught me so much about my self over the last year. I have learned so many life skills and my character has grown in ways I did not think was possible. God has reminded me that all things are possible with Him. I have graduated from the program and I have committed to an internship here at Calvary House. I find so much joy in giving back any way I can! I will be forever grateful for the relationship that I have with Jesus and for the leaders that He has put in my life to guide me. Sincerely,

Josh G.

My name is Josh and I'm from Elizabethton, TN. I came from a twenty plus year addiction to meth, opiates and benzos. I didn't discriminate. I did whatever drug I could get my hands on. From the time I was 17 years old I was high on something everyday. I became affiliated with a gang to feel accepted and the drugs and the gang were lord of my life. I got arrested for the first time at 18 and went on to get arrested a total of 37 times. I would lie, cheat, steal or break any law to get my fix. Watching my family's heart break and people dying all around me wasn't enough to make me stop the chaos. I was so far gone that I was convinced that this was simply the way the rest of my life would be. After getting released from yet another stay in jail, I was finally willing to try anything to stop the chaos. I was empty and desperate. It wasn't long after that I heard about Calvary House. This is where Jesus got a hold of me and began changing me from the inside out. He started to break every chain that weighed me down my entire adult life. There is now a peace and purpose in my life that I've never felt before. Since completing Calvary House, I now work for Banyan Treatment Center in Pompano Beach, Florida. I look forward to getting up everyday and am so thankful for what Jesus has done in my life. I've been sober for 26 months now and have a new perspective on life. I thank God everyday for the work he has done, and continues to do in my life.

Steven G.

Hi my name is Steven and I'm from Jacksonville Florida. I came to Calvary House on January 14, 2022 and graduated the program on February 18, 2023. Before I came to Calvary House, I struggled with severe alcohol and drug addiction. If you didn't know me and just looked at my life from the outside, you would have thought things were great. I was in my tenth year of marriage, working as a successful insurance agent and my wife and I had just finished building our first home. But in reality I was depressed, lonely and felt completely empty all the time. I had spent years trying to fix my issues before coming to Calvary House. 6 rehab facilities, over 10 detox centers, baker acted 10+ times and countless visits to emergency hospitals. Things weren’t getting better, they were getting worse. I lost my wife, my good insurance job and my brand new house all within a few months of each other. I literally had nothing to live for anymore. Then my family found Calvary House. I was desperate for help and knew I needed someone or something to pluck me out of the pit I was in. I went into Calvary House and over the 12 months I was there I found God and I built a relationship with Him. Something I ever had. I also made new friendships with the guys who have struggled just like me and who helped me every step of the program. I consider these guys my brothers now. After completing Calvary House, I have found peace and joy in my life and once again have hope for my future. I now work at the church at facilities where I get to work with other guys like me who I get to help them with my experiences. And for this I thank God, my family and Calvary House for giving me my life back.

Larry T.

My name is Larry and I was a drug addict for over 23 years. Growing up, I had two step fathers that were alcoholics. Surrounded by alcohol, drugs and partying, I thought it was normal. I guess you could say I believed I was hardwired to live this way. My addiction started with cigarettes and then graduated to weed and alcohol. I met my wife at the age of 19 and this slowed my partying down a little. It was the calm before the storm. Then I was introduced to opiates. I had finally found what I had been searching for all my life. I thought it was the answer to all my problems. Well, it wasn’t the answer and things started to tank quickly. Back in the 90’s, it wasn’t hard for me to get my supply. All I had to do was go to the doctor to get a script. When the Vicodin and Percocet weren’t enough, I graduated to OxyContin and a syringe. This lasted awhile until the DEA got involved and started shutting down these “pill mills”. So, I just start buying my drugs off the street which lead me to heroin. I knew I was an addict now and that I was ruining my life. I bringing everybody down around me. I could NOT stop doing drugs. I felt that I had ruined my life and there was no way out. I truly felt like dying. I couldn’t continue this lifestyle. I overdosed for the second time and this was when I knew I needed help immediately. I heard about a place called Calvary House in South Florida and I gave them a call. After going through the interview process, I was accepted into the program. Going into Calvary House was the hardest and best year of my life. They provided me with a safe place to start really dealing with my issues. They taught me how to live a normal life and most of all they showed me how to build a relationship with God. I graduated a little over a year ago. I now have a strong relationship with God, my wife, my kids and grandkids. I just had the best year of our 33 years of marriage. At the age of 53, I am living life to the fullest. If I had to go through it all again to get to where I’m at now I would do it in a heartbeat. Thank you God and thank you Calvary House. To those who are stuck in addiction, help is a phone call away.

Danial D.

My name is Danial and I’m from Melbourne, Florida. I come from a 15 year addiction to meth and heroin. I grew up in a decent home and had what most would call a pretty normal childhood. Even though things were good at home, at 15 I started using drugs and quickly became dependent on them to function. By the age of 27 I was shooting meth and heroin daily. Things were really bad!! The following three years would become the worst years of my life. I managed to destroy every relationship and had burnt every bridge. I had warrants out for my arrest and found myself homeless sleeping on a couch. I had finally hit rock bottom realizing that I needed help desperately. With nowhere to go and having no idea what to do, a friend showed me a video about a place called Calvary House. I filled out the application and the next morning I had an unexplainable peace come over me. I knew in that moment that this was God coming to my rescue. I turned myself in and spent five months in jail. During my time in jail, I surrendered my life to Christ. After serving my time, I knew the next step was to work on my recovery and that is when I came to Calvary House. Through their Christ-centered residential program I was able to learn more about discipleship, healing, restoration, and what a fully surrendered life is. I also acquired life-skills that have enabled me to get a job at Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale, become the equipment manager for the CCA football team and mentor other men who struggle with the same bondage I once did. God has restored relationships with family and friends that were once shattered, has blessed me with a community of friends that are more like family, but most importantly He has led me on this path of recovery in which I am about to celebrate two years clean and sober. I know there will be difficult and trying times ahead, but God has given me the strength, wisdom and knowledge to handle them in a way that will honor and glorify Him.
