Joy in Generosity: Giving of Our Availability, Gifts and Resources

Seasons of Generosity Image

At Calvary Chapel, we are blessed to be part of a community where generosity flows from our hearts and hands. Here’s how we define generosity: a willingness to give freely without expecting anything in return. As we reflect on how we can serve God and others, we’re reminded of the profound joy that comes from whole-life generosity, using our availability, gifts, and finances for His glory.

Availability: Investing in Eternal Values

Time is one of the most precious gifts we have. How we choose to spend our days reflects our values and priorities. When we give our time generously, we invest in relationships and activities with eternal significance. It’s about prioritizing and making room for God’s work in our daily lives. Our time is a reflection of our love and commitment to both God and others.

Here are some practical ways to be generous with your time:

  1. Volunteer at Calvary: Invest in the next generation by teaching our little ones at Calvary Kids or SIX78 or HSM, Calvary’s middle and high school ministries. Consider hosting or leading a financial stewardship class or a Freedom group. Your involvement supports these vital environments and helps shape the future of our community.
  2. Disciple Others: Making disciples is our mission! Investing time in others one-on-one follows the example that Jesus set for us. Reach out to someone you know and help them grow in their faith. Share your experiences, offer guidance, and be a source of encouragement. Discipling others strengthens our church family and fosters deeper relationships in Christ.
  3. Join a Small Group: Participate in a small group to deepen your relationships and support one another in their spiritual growth. Small groups offer a space for fellowship, prayer, and mutual support.
  4. Outreach: From backpack giveaways to construction projects to serving the elderly, there are so many ways you can make a difference by sharing the love of Jesus throughout South Florida.

Gifts: Using Our Gifts to Serve

God has uniquely gifted us with talents and skills to make a difference in His kingdom. Using our talents generously means leveraging our abilities for the benefit of others and the glory of God. It involves stepping out of our comfort zones and offering our skills to reach our community and change our world. Each gift we share helps build a stronger and more vibrant church.

Here’s how you can generously use your talents:

  1. Share Your Skills: If you’re a musician or singer, consider joining the worship team or choir. If you’re good with technology, help with sound or video production during services. If you’re great with personal finances, join the stewardship volunteer team and use your gifts to empower others to manage what God has entrusted to them properly.
  2. Teach or Lead: Use your expertise to lead a Bible study, teach a class, or mentor others in areas where you have experience. Sharing your knowledge helps others grow in their journey of discipleship with Jesus.
  3. Offer Professional Services: If you have skills in areas such as accounting, graphic design, or counseling, offer your services to leverage your unique influence in a powerful way. Your professional expertise can support various church functions and help address specific needs.

Finances: Supporting the Work of the Kingdom with Money

Generosity with our financial resources is a tangible way to support the mission of Calvary Chapel. When we give financially, we’re taking ground to build God’s Kingdom through ongoing mission and outreach efforts. Giving with a cheerful heart honors the Lord and helps meet immediate and long-term needs.

Take a Step: You can get in the story and make an impact no matter where you are on your giving journey.

  1.  First-Time Giver: I’ve never given to God at Calvary before, but I’m ready to take that first step.
Action: Give a gift to Calvary for the first time.
  2. Intentional Giver: I’ve given to God at Calvary in the past, but I want to intentionally give regularly.
Action: Determine the amount you’d like to give ($10, $100, $500, or more) and how frequently you’d like to give that amount (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, etc.). Consider creating a recurring gift via our digital platform, Pushpay.
  3. Proportional Giver: I’ve been giving to God regularly at Calvary, but I want to begin giving 10% of my income as a biblical tithe.
Action: Calculate 10% of your monthly income, then give that amount in total with regularity. You can split it up into however many gifts work best for you. Many people find bi-weekly giving (or each time they get paid) easiest!
  4. Sacrificial Giver: I’ve been tithing 10% of my income, but I want to stretch that percentage to a level outside my comfort zone.
Action: Determine a new percentage over and above 10% you want to give and move forward thoughtfully. Our Engagement Team can help you craft a plan to best support Calvary’s current missional activity.
  5. Legacy Giver: I already give above and beyond my tithe to God at Calvary, but I want to make a kingdom impact that will outlive me.
Action: Consider assets you own that could be leveraged to support the ministries at Calvary. Many Calvary families have set aside a planned gift in their will or trust as part of their estate design.

The Joy of Generosity

Generosity is an act and a reflection of our relationship with God. Through our generous acts, we experience true joy—a joy that comes from serving others, fulfilling God’s call, and witnessing the impact of our contributions. As we embrace whole-life generosity, giving God the best of all we have to offer, let us do so with joyful hearts, knowing that our acts of kindness and service make a difference.
